Local School Children Celebrate Their Achievements at the 2024 Robin Hood Mini Marathon Schools Challenge Awards
Last night, young runners from schools across Nottingham gathered at the Jubilee Conference Centre for a thrilling celebration of the Robin Hood Mini Marathon Schools Challenge Awards. The event, held on Sunday 29th September 2024, highlighted the determination and team spirit of these budding athletes and helped to raise huge sums of money for charity. Each young participant had demonstrated resilience, dedication, and team spirit in the months of preparation leading up to race day, and the night was a testament to their hard work and commitment.
The evening was filled with applause as more than 80 students across age groups—U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17—were awarded prizes. Adding to the excitement, awards were handed out by local legend, MBE, and elite race participant Mr. Richard Whitehead, making it a memorable night for all. Tensions rose with excitement as winning teams of three girls and boys from each category collected their awards, with the night culminating in the announcement of the top-performing schools. With West Bridgford Junior and Abbey Road both crowned as joint overall champions, taking home the prestigious 1st place award, followed by West Bridgford Infant and West Bridgford Senior both taking second place, and Rushcliffe Comprehensive School taking third place.
The energy of the night celebrated Nottingham’s young runners, who proudly represented their schools and showcased a passion for running that promises a bright future. The Robin Hood Mini Marathon Schools Challenge remains a cherished tradition, fostering community spirit, physical fitness, and unforgettable memories for Nottingham's youth.
Sofia Chesterfield secured 1st place for the overall girl’s winner, with Lyla Morrow finishing in 2nd and Helena Clough in 3rd. Reece Carver won the overall boys race, with James Hickman securing 2nd place and Lewis Denison in 3rd. Samuel Hayward received the award for the first boy across the line in the 10 Years and Under category and Elise Plant was presented with the award as the first girl in the same category.

Judith Manson, Race Director, said: “Tonight was a perfect send off for the 2024 event. The Mini Marathon is such an important part of the event and has always been one of the biggest mini-marathon events in the country, the 1.5-mile route is a fun community focused race which sees school children running alongside their parents, friends, siblings, teachers or anyone else that you can persuade. The enthusiasm from the kids, parents, and the schools is always fantastic and we’re so grateful for the support.
“What makes this part of the event so worthwhile is seeing so many active children who love running. Congratulations to all the winners and for everyone who took part this year, we’re already looking forward to welcoming you all again in 2025.”

The Nottingham Post Corporate Challenge race sees team members running in both the Half Marathon and Mini Marathon with the chip times of the fastest two members running in each distance used to determine the overall winners. Thanks to the Nottingham Post, the Corporate Challenge is growing each year and is a great way for businesses to get involved, support their staff and give back to the community they live and work in.
